Filing Application For Social Security Disability


Social Security Disability application is a legal process through which an individual with disability can apply for the Social Security Disability Benefits. The application for the disability benefits under the social security does not involve a complex process. It begins with contacting your local Social Security Office. It is the Social Security Office that determines if your disability is for social security or not. For this, they will conduct an interview in-person followed by their consent for desired application. The idea is to make sure as to which kind of benefit should the individual apply.

There are two age categories of the disabled that is considered. These are, children under the age of 18 and adults over 18. Whatever the category, a representative is provided to explain about the process and the contents of the claim. This representative is authorized to deal with your case. He will answer your queries and do the paperwork. Regarding paper work, there is a formality of a prescribed format of the application form to be filled by the claimant. This form contains several columns indicating claimant's name, date of birth, duration of work, medical status and the name and addresses of the doctors who has treated the disabled person.

Later the claim will be sent to the Disability Determination Service. This body is authorized to take decisions regarding the confirmed medical status. The claims representative will only decide as to under what program the claimant is entitled to get the benefits. There are two programs –Social Security Disability Income and Supplemental Security Income. If you are an adult, your eligibility for the program will depend on your work history but in case of children this formality is not required.
